Born in 1990, in the countryside of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Laura-Lynn Petrick has practiced analogue photography for 18 years - documenting the world around her. Inspired by her studies in cinema, Petrick has directed over 120 iconic music videos. She is a graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Popular Culture from Brock University. She is certified in Analog Photography at Ryerson University.

Petrick develops an intimate and empathetic relationship with her subjects. Through her visuals she explores both the earthly and the supernatural, capturing the subject organically. Petrick's versatile work is shot organically on 35mm, 16mm, super 8 and 120mm, with a standard of naturalness. Her images are rooted in nostalgia and the human condition. Her work documents the unique aura of individuals and the sublime qualities of the natural world. Petrick captures popular culture and contemporary countercultures. Her photographs frequently depict the iconic landscapes of Canadiana and Americana.

Laura-Lynn works closely with musicians internationally. She continuously documents their evolution as musicians, working with talents such as Mac DeMarco, Weyes Blood, TOPS, Whitney, Hinds, Gum, Allah-Las, Breanna Barbara, Mapache, Jessica Pratt, Girl In Red, Alvvays, Pearl Charles, Juan Wauters, Kiwi Jr, Day Wave, Homeshake, Michael Rault, Real Estate, Cadence Weapon, Claude Fontaine, The Franklin Electric, Alex Maas, Night Beats, Andy Shauf, Calvin Love, and Nick Waterhouse.  She has gone on the road, as an ethnographer and tour documentarian with Allah-Las, Juan Wauters, Mac DeMarco, Calvin Love, TOPS, and Hinds. Petrick has directed, shot and edited over 120 music videos for global record labels, including Capital Records, Universal Music Group, Sub Pop, Nettwerk Music, Third Man Records, Innovative Leisure, AWAL, Mexican Summer, AVEX, Fat Possum, Sinderlyn, Saddle Creek, Arts & Crafts, and Spinning Top.

The filmmaker created a roster of avant-garde original music documentaries, with her film De Vida Voz, following the Allah-Las premiering with Live Nation TV and Out in Far Rockaway receiving international press coverage. As well as a series of intimate cinema verite documentaries.

In addition to her role as a music documentarian, Petrick has also shot several lookbooks for the international fashion company,  American Apparel, and Canadian independent fashion companies Rightful Owner, Untitled & Co, and Penny Arcade Vintage. Petrick recently shot campaigns for Lot 40 Whisky, Rigour & Whimsy Winery, Heartbeat Hotsauce and a photo campaign for Toyota. Petrick directed a creative documentary for Vans & Vice, following skateboard culture youth in her hometown. Laura-Lynn’s work is published in Interview, The New York Times, Subbacultcha, Wonderland Magazine, Harper's Bazaar, Bullett, The Fader,  i-D, Spin,  RUSSSH, the Village Voice, Bullett, Rolling Stone, The Los Angeles Times,  Nylon Magazine, Dazed & Confused, The Washington Post, Toronto Star,  NME, and The Fader Magazine.

Petrick has exhibited her work internationally, with over four solo shows between 2012-2014 in Toronto, and a consistent participation in several international group shows. Laura-Lynn’s shown in galleries in New York, Paris, London, Buenos Aires, Montreal, Gothenburg, and London. She is working with Timeshow Press in France on an upcoming feature photography book. Petrick's first short film, "Superior", shot in her hometown region, premiered in Cannes, apart of the 2017 AVIFF Official Selection. Petrick continuously collaborates on creative short films with multidisciplinary artists.

Petrick is currently working on a feature photography book of her new body of work, exploring landscapes and abstract photography of North America.

Laura-Lynn is directing her first narrative short horror film, Lempo, written by Tina Petrick. Now in post-production for a fall 2024 release.

She is based in Montreal, Quebec.
